It’s the little things

Pre-Baby: The little things you’ll miss

  • Sleeping in…When people so graciously warn you that you won’t sleep ever again. It’s not entirely true. You will one day when the baby gets on a sleeping schedule, a.k.a. they sleep through the night. Then you will sleep. Your head will hit the pillow like a ton of bricks and you ‘ll sleep like… a baby! You just won’t sleep in for quite a while, I am guessing the next 18 years.
  • Taking a long shower without opening the curtain to check the baby monitor, every few minutes. (Especially when your shower is only two minutes max! Too much other stuff to do!) Sometimes a leg is sacrificed during the shaving process and you’ll have to go halvsies-one smooth, one wilder beast! I look at showers in a whole different way now. It is pure bliss.
  • Getting errands done whenever you need to with no time limits. I had to let go of my two-hour Home Good excursions, unless Em happens to nap there in his stroller. Now that equals a great day lol.
  • That feeling of only having to worry about yourself. I sometimes think I had enough to worry about, just taking care of me and my hot mess self! If I think about it too much, it can be really overwhelming-the thought of being responsible for someone else forever.
  • The ability to get something done without any interruptions at all. Things you never imagined would even matter like plucking your eyebrows, or going to the bathroom!

Post-Baby: The little things you’ll never want to let go

  • The smile on their face when they see you walk through the door after a long day at work. It will make you forget the garbage you dealt with and remember why you wake up everyday.
  • The sound of them making little goo goo’s, happy screams and banging their toys. You won’t ever feel lonely again sitting at home.
  • The touch of their little hand on yours. And when you look down at the sight of it, you’ll say to yourself, “I can’t believe this is my baby”
  • When they do something they’ve never done before and you feel so proud. And if you’re like Jonathan and I, you will be biased from the get-go and ask each other, isn’t that so advanced???
  • The feeling of their breath on your neck when you’re holding them in the middle of the night. Yes there will be times when you’re so exhausted because you’ve woken up several times and hardly got a wink of sleep. And after many of these nights in a row, the feeling of crazy does rapidly approach. But I promise you there will be more moments that you wish you could bottle that feeling up so you could feel it forever. It’s that good.

We all have those moments of missing parts of our old lives sans child. And although it may be hard to admit or maybe a bit embarrassing, I think it’s the honest truth. We are after all human and becoming a parent has never been guaranteed to be a breeze.  Every now and then you will wonder, How am I gonna do this? And with that comes natural feelings of missing some of your old life while learning to connect with what’s new. This little angel will make you question yourself in more ways than one, your capabilities, your patience… But most of all, how you ever lived life before without this immense new love that makes everything, even silly things, out of this world.

Keeping it real,

Love is in the air!

So some people think this is not a real holiday and it is for the suckers of this world. It infuriates some people in fact! I say okay I know this holiday can be very commercialized and your love shouldn’t be only celebrated to this extent on this one day.

But why not let it be a day that you have an excuse to do something a little extra special, extra cheesy and sometimes over the top for the ones you love.

Whether you’re celebrating with your honey, with girlfriends or even by yourself, there is always room in your heart to let some love in!

Here’s a few ways that I thought would come in handy in case those of you who are skeptics of this day, change your mind and want to make the best of it! Or for those of you who are looking for a less expensive way to have a good time on this heart-filled day whether you’re with someone or a single gal.

  • Fondue dinner at home-that’s what we are going to try tonight, it should be interesting to say the least! (Just have to go buy one, they are everywhere) I am sure this would be so much fun to do with a group of girlfriends. Any excuse to dip bread in cheese or fruit in chocolate seems like a win-win to me.
  • A sunset picnic on the beach-imagine gorgeous weather, blankets, a bottle or two of vino, a view and a great conversation. With girlfriends, bring a bunch of magazines and just hang, bring three bottles and you’re all set! By yourself? Bring a book-fifty shades maybe and breathe in the air, listen to the waves and just relax. You deserve it.
  • Board game night-always bound to create belly laughs, makes you feel like you’re younger again, and usually is enhanced with cocktails and yummy snacks. If you’re with a honey, play truth or dare too (both hilarious and a little sexy at the same time) Make up your own set of rules. If you’re with friends, all of the above is all good too.
  •  Popcorn and Movies-Make him watch all of your favorites, you know the romantic comedies that he never wants to watch! Now is the time to break them out. Stay up late and snuggle. Or have a slumber party with your gals and do the same thing. I actually really miss sleepovers with my friends, don’t you?
  • Go ice-skating-there has to be laughs all around with this one no matter who the company is. I for one know that this would make me get close with Jonathan real quickly, because I’d be falling into is arms the whole night! Literally. Don’t drink and skate. Or do but wear a helmet!

Hugs and Kisses,

A look at our day so far…first we tried to do a photo-shoot while daddy was at work! Very. Very. Difficult.

Getting the hang of this…

And here we go! Staring into your soul!

While he napped… I played a bit.

Then gramma comes over and brings ten baloons and a hundred kisses…

and this…

and gave mommy and daddy a treat too.

Tried to make Lita this…(Em’s other grandma)…a failed mission.

After recovering from that tantrum, I got a little creative, and some might think corny…

daddy came home-thank goodness- with this sweetness or should I say spicy?

and the rest is yet to come! Need a starbucks ASAP, to go get the fondue pot from Bed, Bath and Beyond with a coupon. And get this party started after baby E hits the sack!

Stay tuned!

These are a few of my favorite things

Dove bar soap. I don’t know what it is but in a sea of Bath and Body Works, I would still always choose my classic Dove scent! You know they have pistachio scented now! It seems weird-it’s not. It’s divine.

Pearls. Something about them, reminds me of my mom I think. I have pair of pearl earrings that I love from Jonathan. And an old necklace of my moms.

Cheetos. When I was pregnant I had a heightened love affair with them. Then again, I loved everything cheesy. I didn’t discriminate against Cheez-its or puffs, or cheese and crackers!

Paris. I’ve never been but it’s my dream to go there. I love photos of the Eiffel Tower, especially ones that were taken along time ago.

Red lipstick. I have fifty shades of red in my lipstick collection! It makes me feel pretty. A good lipstick to me makes all the difference.

Chandeliers. They are everything to me. I love older ones and more modern ones. I think they put a touch of elegance in a room that is undeniable. I hope to have them at our wedding one day and in every room of my house.

Taking Photos. Over the years, I have taken countless pictures of my friends and family during every occasion. I Love capturing the memories. One day when I move to a home, I would love to have a gallery wall with all my loved ones on it. Need a big wall.

Pinot Noir. A good glass with a good friend is always a fantastic night. Or just alone watching an insane episode of Housewives… or sitting on Pinterest.

Pinterest. I could browse for hours. According to these virtual boards, I have the perfect life. It’s my meditation.

A good trip to Home Goods. I feel like I am on a treasure hunt when I’m in that place and it’s exhilarating!

Give your heart and soul to me…

I have to remember this always. (my favorite line) It means to look at life through rose colored glasses, seeing only the joy in life. It’s a state of being in love. So romantic! XO
